Rapids and Waterfalls, Taupo
|
When the land that Bayview Wairakei Resort is situated on was originally purchased, it encompassed the Aratiatia Rapids and Huka falls...
Aratiatia Rapids
The biggest Rapids in Australasia, the Aratiatia Rapids, come alive several times per day as the spillway is opened to send 90,000 litres per water rushing through per second! There is a road bridge across the top of the rapids and many viewing platforms which give excellent vantage points to really see the sensational power of this churning white-water.
Rapids Jet can take you on a white-knuckle thrill ride up and down the rapids. Surf the rapids, shoot through narrow canyons, take on river whirlpools, see trout at the bottom of gin-clear pools and count the seconds your boat is in the air!
After your jet boat ride, take advantage of the many lovely river walks that take you to perfect swimming holes, fishing spots and natural hot water springs.
Huka Falls
While 47 rivers and streams feed into the lake, there is but one outlet – the mighty Waikato River.
The thunderous Huka Falls is New Zealand’s most visited natural attraction and a must see when visiting Taupo. Bayview Wairakei Resort provides the perfect accommodation for your stay.
Stroll to one of many viewing platforms to see a breath-taking 220,000 litres of water tumble over a cliff face per second. Put another way, that’s two Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of water, every single second! At the base of the falls, the water appears the most magnificent shade of blue – take your camera.
For a water-level view of this beautiful monster, board the Huka Jet, where you’ll jet boat ride right up to the thunderous base of Huka Falls.
